FF/Assistant Chief Murdick was engaged in a rescue operation at McConnell's Mill State Park in Slippery Rock, PA. According to reports, A man flipped his kayak in Slippery Rock Creek about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh, and became trapped underwater by the strong current. There were several departments on the scene assisting with the rescue effort. He was a member of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department, where he was chief-3 and dive master of the dive team and a representative for the fire department at the Butler County Fire Chiefs’ Association. He also was a state-certified vehicle rescue technician and a former member of the Monroeville-4 Volunteer Fire Department. Tony was a also a 1994 graduate of Butler High School and a 1997 graduate of Allegheny County Community College, where he earned an associate’s degree in fire science in 1997. Volunteers at the Unionville Vol. Fire Department gathered at their station the following day to honor their fallen comrades. The loss of these two heros is the first Line of Duty loss in the history of the department. Pictures and uniforms of both Scott and Anthony lay rest on a table outside the department, and the station bell was sounded 14 times in their honor. The bell was tapped 14 times as Unionville is station number 14 in Butler County.
